Dolium sedentarium Larsen & Patterson, 1990 (ref. ID; 4872)

Descriptions

Cell length 58 um, range 50-70 um (40-47 um). Cell rigid, slightly flattened, two longitudinal ridges on the dorsal and two on the ventral side of the cell, those on the ventral side more delicate. Cell sides slightly concave, posterior part ending in a sharp apex. A large flagellar reservoir with the bottom close the middle of the cell connected to a conical depression in the anterior end by a canal. There are two flagella but one only extends outside the cell, beating or moving very slowly. Large number of spherical particles inside cell. Diatoms observed inside cell but no direct feeding mechanism observed. Cell not observed to locomote. (ref. ID; 4872)

Remarks

Cell length longer than reported by Larsen & Patterson (1990). Appearance variable, with 4 (this study) to 6 (Larsen & Patterson 1990) longitudinal ridges. Larsen & Patterson (1990) write that there are 6 ridges, but only four were drawn. (ref. ID; 4872)
