Similar to Cryptomonas in general body form and structure, but colorless because of the absence of chromatophores; without pyrenoid; "cytopharynx" deep, lower half surrounded by granules, considered by Hollande (1942) and Dragesco (1951) as trichocysts; 1 contractile vacuole anterior; nucleus in posterior half; endoplasm usually filled with polygonal starch grains; saprozoic; fresh water.
