Amastigomonas

Amastigomonas De Saedeleer, 1931 (ref. ID; 4907)

Order Apusomonadida Karpov & Mylnikov, 1989 (ref. ID; 4907): Apusomonadidae Karpov & Mylnikov, 1989 (ref. ID; 4872)

[ref. ID; 4907]
This genus was created for metabolic flagellates without flagella, but with an anterior rostrum. Later it has been realized that the organisms have two heterodynamic flagella and a dorsal theca. The anterior flagellum is partly or totally enclosed by the theca. Species have been added by Zhukov (1975), Hamar (1979), Larsen & Patterson (1990) under the generic name Thecamonas, and by Molina & Nerad (1991), who give a short review of the genus. (ref. Synonym

Thecamonas trabens Larsen & Patterson, 1990 (ref. ID; 4921)

Descriptions

Gliding flagellate, posterior flagellum usually not extending from behind the cell, but strands of cytoplasm may be present. Anterior flagellum about one third of cell length, most anterior part may project from the rostrum covering around the flagellum. (ref. ID; 4872)

Measurements

Cell length 6.7 um, range 6.6-7.1 um. Previous reports of the length range are 4.5-7 um (Larsen & Patterson 1990), 3-6 um (Vors 1992) and 3.5-7 um (Patterson et al. 1993). (ref. ID; 4872)
