Microstome and macrostome forms of this genus vary considerably in their morphology. Microstomes resemble Glaucoma, being oval in outline with the posterior being slightly narrowed. The oral aperture is tear-shaped, prominently narrowed posteriorly, lying in the anterior body half. There is an undulating membrane on the anterior right edge of the oral aperture and 2 large membranelles (M1 and M2) on the left but not protruding from the buccal cavity. Membranelle M3 is divided into 4 kinetal rows forming a structure rather similar to the quadrulus in Paramecium. Somatic ciliation uniform with 60-70 kineties, there is a hook-shaped pre-oral suture at the apex. Trichocysts present. Single equatorial contractile vacuole. Macronucleus ovoid approximately centrally located. In the macrostomes the oral aperture is oval to triangular opening into large buccal cavity. Single species genus.
