Colonial. Inverted bell-shaped zooids mounted upon a branching, tree-like non-contractile stalk. Unlike other peritrichs which have a single zooid on the end of each branch, this genus has 40-160 zooids arranged single zooid on the ends of the branches. The zooids are of two shapes, the slimmer ones are microconjugants and the rounder larger ones are macroconjugants. Both types of zooid have lips to their peristome. Most easily confused with Epistylis and Campanella in which there is always a single zooid at the ends of each of each stalk branch.
