Class Kinetofragminophora: Subclass Gymnostomata: Order Haptorida: Family Spathidiidae (ref. ID; 2013)

[ref. ID; 2013]
Body shape bell-like, with broadly rounded posterior, open anterior end truncated transversely, rounded in cross-section. There is a very large open apical aperture occupying the entire anterior end of the body which is surrounded by a comparatively thick unciliated ridge. The body is metabolic with the anterior part around the oral aperture being rather more contractile than the posterior. Ciliation uniform in longitudinal kineties. There are groups of trichocysts scattered regularly throughout the cell just below the pellicle. Single spherical macronucleus. Single contractile vacuole. Planktonic in Lake Baikal feeding on diatoms.
