Body outline oval to elongate, usually with broadly rounded posterior (but one species has narrowed posterior region), anterior always with conspicuous trichocyst wart projecting from the dorsal edge of the apical unciliated ridge. The anterior of the cell is truncated obliquely. Body ciliation uniform. Macronucleus either ovoid or elongate. Single posterior contractile vacuole.

Posterior end pointed, highly flattened; anterior end elevated at one side where cytostome and cytopharynx with ten rods are located. (ref. ID; 1618)
