Body spherical to ellipsoid, completely contained within a membrane globular lorica. The lorica may be translucent or opaque due to the presence of foreign particles, it may be closed, open apically or pierced by small orifices near to the apex. The animal is attached by its lorica direct to the substratum without an intervening stalk. There are 1 to 6 fascicles of capitate tentacles which radiate out around the body. There are one to several contractile vacuoles, a centrally placed oval macronucleus and reproduction is by endogenous budding. The oval larvae produced have cilia in oblique rows around the body.
