Body spherical to ovoid, with slight protuberance at posterior end to which is attached a slender stalk. Body bears 30-60 capitate tentacles which radiate from over the entire surface. No lorica. Macronucleus rounded, single contractile vacuole. Reproduction by invaginative budding. Very easily confused with Podophrya which is morphologically identical and is distinguished by its exogenous budding. Genus erected for the species Podophrya collini Root, 1914.
