Body shape ovoid to cylindrical. Anterior end slightly truncated bearing unciliated ridge which spirals down the body to the posterior. Oral aperture is slit-like, borne upon the apical part of the ridge. Ciliation uniform either in spiral or longitudinal kineties. Macronucleus elongate to ovoid. Single terminal contractile vacuole. Genus erected by Stein (1859).

Descriptions

Oval; spiral ridge complete turn; cytostome in the anterior end of the ridge, with a number of delicate trichites; ovoid to elongate macronucleus; a micronucleus; a terminal contractile vacuole. The ciliate was cultured bacteria-free by feeding on sterile Euglena gracilis. (ref. ID; 1618)
