Palmarella

Palmarella Jankowski, 1975 (ref. ID; 2014)

Class Polyhymenophora: Subclass Spirotricha: Order Heterotrichida: Suborder Heterotrichina (ref. ID; 2014)

Synonym Palmarium Gajewskaja, 1925 (ref. ID; 2014)

[ref. ID; 2014]
Body oval in outline and distinctly dorso-ventrally flattened. Without armour, spines and cirri. The peristome wide but limited to the anterior body half. The AZM short and lying obliquely without spiraling. Left-hand body torsion insignificant but the extreme apical region is bent down ventrally to form a hoop-like structure with perizonal cilia. Single oval macronucleus with adjacent micronucleus. Sapropelic. The genus in common with Tropidoatractus has as perizonal hoop, however, the latter genus has an armour of longitudinal ribs. Palmarella could be confused with Bothrostoma which is also dorso-ventrally flattened but in that genus the perizonal cilia are not located on a hoop-like structure.
