Body outline shape elongate and flask-like, flattened laterally. Broadly rounded posteriorly, narrowing towards anterior. Rather contractile. Apical region bears a long retractile flagellum-like organelle which in one species is borne upon a thicker, twisted retractile rod. Body ciliation uniform and complete. Cytopharynx armed with delicate trichites. Macronucleus rounded in one or two parts. Single contractile vacuole terminal.

Descriptions

Highly contractile; an anterior flagellum half body length, whose basal portion spirally furrowed; cytostome at base of the flagellum; cytopharynx spindle-form with trichites; two contractile vacuoles and cytopyge posterior; ovoid macronucleus; movement slow creeping; fresh water among algae.
