Body spherical to oval in outline with lip at the anterior end below which the oral aperture is situated. There are several prominent longitudinal rows of cilia on the ventral surface. Single contractile vacuole located posteriorly. 3 species have been described to date and the only feature in common is the anterior lip. The original description was given by Conn (1905) but no generic name was assigned in that paper. A second species was described by Lackey (1925) from sewage-treatment plants and a third by Tucolesco (1962) from cave pools.
