Gorgonosoma

Gorgonosoma Swarczewsky, 1928 (ref. ID; 2013)

Class Kinetofragminophora: Subclass Suctoria: Order Suctorida: Suborder Endogenina (ref. ID; 2013)

[ref. ID; 2013]
Large irregularly branched dendritic body with clusters of tentacles located at the clubbed ends of branches. Neither stalk nor lorica present. The majority of the body is erect although its non-branching base spreads to a limited extent. The macronucleus is band-like and branched with several micronuclei. Reproduction is by endogenous budding. Found in Lake Baikal growing on gammarid crustaceans. The genus is most easily confused with Dendrosoma which has a branched spreading habit and with Dendrosomides which is erect but has a stalk.
