Pyriform; posterior end broadly rounded, anterior end bluntly pointed; peristome extends down from anterior end two-fifths or more the body length, its posterior portion closely wound; peculiar black spot beneath membranellae in anterior portion of spiral adoral zone, composed of numerous pigment granules; without contractile vacuole; macronucleus, a sausage-shaped body or in 4 parts; in salt water. Cysts ovoidal, with gelatinous envelope. (ref. ID; 1618)
  • Resting cyst: Rod-like bacteria adhering to outer gelatinous layer (absent in older cysts), S-shaped macronucleus, cytoplasm with alternate light and dark bands. (ref. ID; 4111)
