Euplotaspis

Order Euplotida: Family Aspidiscidae (ref. ID; 7354)

[ref. ID; 7354]
Euplotaspis cionaecola is the sole members of the genus Euplotaspis, and occurs in the branchial cavity of members of a few genera of urochordates. One of us has examined its morphology and morphogenesis in detail [Hill, B.F. 1979. Abstract. Structure and cortical morphogenesis during cell division in Euplotaspis cionaecola Chatton and Seguela 1936 (Ciliophora, Hypotrichida). J. Protozool., 26] There are 14 FVC, with the four along the right margin of the cell forming a nearly confluent brush of thigmotactic ciliature. There are usually five TC, one right caudal cirrus, and no left marginal cirri. The thigmotactic AZM shows little differentiation between collar and lapel regions. The macronucleus is C-shaped. (ref.
