[ref. ID; 2014]
Medium (50-70 um long) elongated ovoid ciliates. Body often dark and opaque due to presence of refractile bodies in cytoplasm. Oral aperture in anterior body half does not reach apical pole. Pre-oral suture absent. Peristome region less than a quarter of body length containing undulating membrane and 3 membranelles. There is an additional oblique row of cilia associated with the peristome located on the anterior right edge. Somatic ciliation in 25-35 kineties which terminate anteriorly in a circle so that the apex is unciliated. Several transverse ciliary bands lead from right of oral aperture over to dorsal surface. Caudal cilium present. Kinetosomes often paired. Trichocysts commonly present. Contractile vacuole located close to the spherical macronucleus in the middle of the body.
