Craterella
Craterella Kofoid & Campbell, 1929
[ref. ID; 3597]
Lorica cup-shaped, with outer and inner collars separated by a shallow trough; oral margin entire; bowl subconical or globular; aboral end round, conical, pointing, or with a pore; wall single-layered, usually hyaline. (ref. ID; 3597)
Type species; Craterella urceolata (Ostenfeld) Kofoid & Campbell (ref. ID; 3597)
- Craterella aperta Marshall (ref. ID; 3597)
- Craterella oxyura (ref. ID; 3319)
- Craterella perminuta Hada, 1970 (ref. ID; 3544 original paper)
- Craterella retusa Hada, 1935 (ref. ID; 4600 original paper) reported year? (ref. ID; 3597)
- Craterella torulata (Jorgensen) (ref. ID; 3597, 4046) reported author and year? (ref. ID; 4464)
- Craterella tortulata (ref. ID; 3319)
- Craterella urceolata (Ostenfeld) Kofoid & Campbell (ref. ID; 3597)
Descriptions
Lorica goblet-shaped, 1.20-1.31 inner oral diameters in length; outer rim abruptly flaring to make a wide expansion, its diameter 1.23-1.26 oral diameters; bowl cylindrical in the anterior half, convex conical (75-90 degrees) in the aboral region; aboral end slightly elevated, transversely cut off; wall hyaline. (ref. ID; 3597)
Comments
The species differs from all the other species of Craterella in the presence of an aboral aperture. (ref. ID; 3597)
Measurements
Length 50-55; oral diameter 42-43; aboral diameter 6-8 um. (ref. ID; 3597)
Craterella perminuta Hada, 1970 (ref. ID; 3544 original paper)
Descriptions
The lorica is remarkably small, and is composed of a hemispherical bowl with a slight expanding oral flare. The wall is thin and transparent without any ornamentation, and the oral rim is entirely smooth. (ref. ID; 3544)
Comments
Hada has decided the form carrying a small hyaline lorica as a new species of Craterella because of having an oral flare. The new species is different from the known forms in minute size and in hemispherical form.
Type locality
It was found in the material taken from the sea south of Africa on March 11, 1960. (ref. ID; 3544)
Measurements
Length 6; oral diameter 9 um. (ref. ID; 3544)
Craterella retusa Hada, 1935 (ref. ID; 4600 original paper) reported year? (ref. ID; 3597)
Descriptions
Lorica minute, stout ovate, nearly equal to the inner oral diameter in length; inner collar sloping (48-55 degrees) to the base of a trough, higher than the outer, distance between the two rims 0.10-0.14 of the total length, outer collar abruptly flaring (80-85 degrees), 1.23 inner oral diameters in outer oral diameter; bowl cup-shaped; aboral region hemispherical or convex conical with a rounded end; wall hyaline. (ref. ID; 3597)
Comments
The species differs from C. torulata (Jorgensen) in the widely expanding outer rim and the rounded aboral end and from C. urceolata (Ostenfeld) in being smaller and stouter. (ref. ID; 3597)
Measurements
Length 32-33; inner oral diameter 30 um. (ref. ID; 3597)
Craterella torulata (Jorgensen) (ref. ID; 3597, 4046) reported author and year? (ref. ID; 4464)
Descriptions
The species has a small, hyaline lorica with 2 smooth even rims. The inner rim is raised above the outer one, which is slightly flared. The round bowl is bluntly pointed aborally. (ref. ID; 4046)
Measurements
The dimensions of the lorica are: length 28-30, width 21-23 um (n=2). (ref. ID; 4046)
