Clistolagenophrys

Clistolagenophrys Clamp, 1991 (ref. ID; 4335 original paper)

[ref. ID; 4335]
Descriptions; Closure apparatus of lorica aperture consists of two opposing lips formed from folds of lorica material. Lips of lorica aperture oriented parallel to transverse axis of body and lorica. Lips of aperture thin-walled, flexible, with convexly curved edge, without projections or indentations of any sort on edge. Both lips pulled completely within lorica in closure of aperture and both lose their shape on closing; inverted bases of lips pressed together to effect closure. Loricastome present; parts of peristomial lip associated with loricastome or containing thickened myonemal band unknown at present (neither were given by Swarczewsky (1930)). Existence of second-type division presumed but not confirmed. (ref. ID; 4335)
Remarks; The single species of Clistolagenophrys is endemic to Lake Baikal. Except for its method of closing the lorica aperture. C. primitiva is generally similar to Lagenophrys, which includes several species also endemic to Lake Baikal (Swarczewsky 1930). It is likely that C. primitiva evolved there from an endemic species of Lagenophrys since its host is also endemic to the lake. (ref. ID; 4335)
Type species; Lagenophrys primitiva Swarczewsky, 1930 by designation.
The genus is monotypic at present. The type host is Pallasea cancellus (Pallas), a gammarid amphipod. The type species occurs on the pereiopods and pleopods of its host (Swarczewsky 1930). (ref. ID; 4335)
