Chlamydodon

Chlamydodon Ehrenberg, 1835 (ref. ID; 2013)

Class Kinetofragminophora: Subclass Hypostomata: Order Cyrtophorida: Suborder Chlamydodontina (ref. ID; 2013)

[ref. ID; 2013]
Outline shape oval to reniform, dorso-ventrally flattened with edges of the dorsal body half overhanging the ventral half. Between the 2 halves is a prominent band of trichites (sometimes referred to as the 'railroad track') which encircles the body. Somatic ciliature restricted to ventral surface. Ventral ciliature consists of many longitudinal kineties on the right-hand side which extend forward to curve around the apical region. The oral aperture is supported by a ring to trichites. There are 3 pre-oral kineties. Behind the mouth there is a field of left kineties which completely fills the left half of the ventral surface. The macronucleus is ovoid and centrally located. There are several contractile vacuoles scattered throughout the cytoplasm.

Descriptions

Ellipsoid or reniform; right side convex, left side concave; ventral side flat, dorsal side greatly convex; a band of trichites, 'railroad track', parallel to body outline; oral basket with eight to ten rods; macronucleus oral; four to five contractile vacuoles distributed; salt water. MacDougall (1928) observed it in the brackish water at Woods Hole and studied its neuromotor system. (ref. ID; 1618)

Measurements

60-90 um long. (ref. ID; 1618)

Chlamydodon pedarius Kaneda (ref. ID; 1618) reported author and year? (ref. ID; 191)

Descriptions

Reniform, flattened; 5-12 contractile vacuoles in two longitudinal rows; cytopyge right-posterior; about forty ciliary rows; eleven to thirteen trichites in the oral basket; the striped band, encircling the ventral surface, is composed of numerous semicircular trichites (capable of movement), arranged in a cross-tie fashion and make a canalicular structure; in brackish water. (ref. ID; 1618)

Measurements

110-138 by 50-70 um. (ref. ID; 1618)
