Sedentary, locate, ovoid to pyriform ciliate. Lorica tube-like of two types, it may have parallel sides or may have a central bulbous region in which the ciliate is housed. Oral aperture with prominent undulating membrane which stretches down the right side of the body to form a pouch in the posterior body half. Trichocysts present. Somatic ciliation uniformly distributed over entire body, with a caudal cilium. Contractile vacuole in posterior body region. Macronucleus spherical, centrally located.

Lorica about 85 um high; body about 50 um long. Kellicott's form is more elongated. (ref. ID; 1618)
