Comment
The construction industry in Vietnam consumes a significant amount of energy and input materials while generating an increasing quantity of waste. Construction and demolition waste (CDW) causes a wide range of socio-environmental concerns given that the CDW reuse/recycling rate remains low, and illegal dumping is prevalent in the country. Meanwhile, CDW recycling facilities do not yet exist, which calls for efforts to accelerate the introduction of this industry, including studies to analyze possibilities for CDW recycling. Our study responds to this need by estimating the potential market for recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) and appraising the feasibility of two concrete recycling models in Vietnam. This research was supported as a project of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) – Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) (No. JPMJSA1701).
