Purpose for use

Herbicide.
Bentazone is non-toxic for earthworms in concentrations applied in practice (LC50>1000 ug g-1). It is used worldwide in cultures of soybean, rice, maize and some others. It has been shown to irreversibly block the photosynthetic electron transport in higher plants. Bentazone is also known to be quickly transformed in the soil, resulting in the incorporation into humic substances. (ref. ID; 6067)
