Notes

Cultures of fresh water rotifer Lecane tenuiseta Harring were tried in the following artifical environments: 1) Phytoplankton's culture medium plus Haematococcus, Palmella, Euglena, Coelastrum and Chaetoceros as natural foods. 2) Phytoplankton's culture medium plus particle of clover or clover extract and liver extract as artifical foods. The results obtained from feeding experiment with Lecane were as follows. 1. When the food supply of Haematococcus, Palmella was offered, we had very abundant Lecane; but the food supply of Euglena, Coelastrum, Chaetoceros allowed very few to grow. Colorless flagellate was good food. As a food of Lecane, natural food was decided by size, form and movement of cell. 2. Out of the artifical foods liver extract proved to be best; next to it P.S.T. solution and clover extract were approximately as effectual as natural food. Clover particles were remarkably inferior.
