Notes

The species of the genus Cyclidium are all free living. So the discovery of Cyclidium lanuginosum Penard, 1922 in a shell caused a taxonomic research of this species. For this purpose the animals were treated with protargol and got a Foissner silver impregnation. Their silverline system and their infraciliature were compared with those of several species of the genera Calyptotricha, Cyclidium, Ctedoctema and Pleuronema. It appeared from this, that the species described by Penard belongs to the genus Calyptoticha. For that genus the following criteria are stated: They are Cyclidiidae, building shells and possessing a preoral suture, a postoral kinety and a characteristic silverline system. Their first adoral membranelle is always considerably longer than the second or the third one.
