In the study of the morphology of Stentor coeruleus, realized at the electronic microscopy, the existence of green alga of the genus Chlorella in the inside of the ciliate has been observed. Each algal cell is located in the inside of a vacuole. The algal cells can divide forming 2 or 4 daughter cells, each one separates in an individual vacuole. The alga does not degenerate inside the vacuole, and it is not digested by the ciliate. The algae will distribute between the tomites of the ciliate after its bipartition. There are cup-shaped formations, little exovacuolar formations and endovacuolar vesicles associated to the perialgal vacuolar membrane. The pyrenoid is not divided. There are polyphosphate bodies and the size is relatively more greater than that of Chlorella from other ciliates.
