Euplotes palustris n. sp. found in marshy areas a little wild-life reserve in Westfalen, FRG, belongs to the morphological group of fresh-water Euplotes species with 10 frontoventral cirri. It is characterized by the dorsal argyrome of the "double-patella type", the small cirri IV, 2 and V, 2, the localization of the transverse cirri in two groups, a relatively big micronucleus (diameter 3-4 um) and the ability of encystment. It measures 45-55x35-45 um and does not possess any endosymbionts in its cytoplasm.
