Notes

Morphological features of two species of Spumella (= Monas, = Hetroochromonas) from the Lake Baikal nanoplankton are examined using clonal material. In S. termo, broad variation of body shape is a characteristic feature of the species. Feeding individuals sometimes form food exovacuoles. A new species is described, S. gregaria, comparable in size to S. termo, S. socialis and S. minima, and in body shape of S. polysticta. S. gregaria is characterized by a specific combination of mophological characters: length of flagella, cell size and shape, number and arragement of contractile vacuoles.
