Notes

Seventy-three species and forms of infusoria, belonging to 21 families and 39 genera, are found in the Divichinskiy estuary. Twenty-three of these species were new to the freshwater fauna of Azerbaydzhan and of the Caucasus. Holotricha dominated in number and variety. The maximum number of species (38) and of specimens (6.6 million/m2) are observed in spring. The southern (Khanlar) part of the estuary is richest in infusoria. The distribution of infusoria was studied as a function of environmental factors (temperature, oxygen content, bottom soil type, etc.). The lateral and vertical distribution of infusoria is discussed.
