Notes

The paper is concerned with the reproduction of Philodina roseola and its behavior after laying eggs under normal conditions and upon introduction of toxic substances (bunigal and p-phenylenediamine). It is shown that under normal conditions there exists in Philodina roseola group care of the offspirng and that the rotifers stay with the developing fry after egg laying. Under the effect of the toxic substances the number of egg cells deposited decreases and P. roseola loses the instinct of care for the offspring. Biotests based on reproduction and behavioral changes during the egg laying in P. roseola are suggested for toxicological estimates of pollution of the aquatic environment.
