No Rotifera have previously been recorded from the Tanzanian island Zanzibar. In the present contribution, 34 monogonont rotifers are recorded from the island. Filinia novaezealandiae is reported for the first time since its description. The morphology of this species is re-examined using scanning electron microscopy. It is suggested that this may be the true identity of many of the tropical-latitude records of the cold-stenothermic Filinia terminalis.
