Notes

Seventy-four taxa of testate amoebae were found in 25 aquatic samples from the Shetlands and the Faeroer. Several communities were distinguished, some of them characteristic for acid, nuterient-poor conditions (the Arcella hemisphaerica and the Difflugia globularis communities), while the Difflugia lacustris community is observed in more mesotrophic ranges. There seems to be a geographical shift in the importance of the genus Difflugia between Shetland and Faeroer. Fifty-six taxa were observed in 18 moss and 5 lichen samples from the same archipels. Several groups of samples were recognizable, which were indicative of the moisture content of the substrate. The Assulina muscorum-Euglypha strigosa glabra community seems to be typical for dry habitats.
