Notes

In May 1982, a dense community of ciliates of the Trachelocercidae family was found at the mid-depth of Lake Kaiike, where the bacterial population was also so dense that the water turned pinkish (bacterial plate). The maximum density of these ciliates, about 3x10E4 ind.l-1, may be one of the highest densities ever found in natural unpolluted waters.
