Notes

The paper reports the occurrence of 118 species including 9 varieties in 50 genera of rotifers collected from 23 major localities in Singapore and 18 localities in Malaysia. It incorporates all the rotifers species collected and identified by the late Professor D.S. Johnson in the course of casual collection, and recorded by him in several handwritten and typewritten manuscripts which have been collated by the authors. A consideration of the pH values of the habitats indicated that, while rotifers could occur over a range of 2.8-11.8, the normal range in this region was 6.0-7.3. The rotifers recorded were, in a large part cosmopolitan, but tended to have a definite Malaysian facies in relation to the relative abundance of certain species. Variations observed in the forms present are by no means fully understood.
