The thermophilous fauna of certain hot springs of Nagano-ken, Japan. During the summer of last year, a biological survey was made of several hot springs of Nagano-ken, the middle part of Honsyu, such as Sirahone, Zigokudani, Kumanoyu, Reisenzi, Osio and Kageyu. Forty-seven species of thermophilous animals were found, as follows: (Table). Most of the species abovementioned are found in the temperature ranging beween 32 degrees and 40 degrees C, and in pH value between 3.75 and 7.8. Seventeen (with * mark) species are discovered in the hot spring for the first time in Japan. One of the protozoan species, Lionotus sp. seems to be new to science.
