Notes

At all 17 testate amoebas are found in the hygropsammon of the studied Macedonian lakes. The testacean taxocenose of the biggest Ohrid lake is richest and comprises 14 species. The testate amoebas inhabiting the hygropsammon of the studied lakes belong to three ecological categories: psammobiontes stricts (2 species), psammophiles (5) and psammoxenes (9). The two found psammobiontes: Psammonobiotus communis Gol., 1967 and Difflugiella psammophila Gol., 1970 are considered as marine relicts in the lakes from the old Sarmatian Sea, covered Balkan peninsula at the Pliocene.
