Notes

On a diatom "lawn", the amoebae of Synamoeba arenaria n. gen., n. sp. form a permanent feeding community, all specimens being connected by pseudopodial strands. Free-ending pseudopodia serve for grasping the prey. Successive binary divisions with in the community lead to multiplication of the amoebae, but also -with the exhaustion of the food- to their diminution. Finally, groups of single specimens separate, detach from the substrate and float away disseminating the species.
