Notes

Corallomyxa nipponica n. sp. from tide pools near the Shimoda Marine Research Center (Japan) could be isolated and cultivated with the pennate diatom Amphiprora sp. as food organism. Multiplication and dissemination of the species are brought about by "floating buds" which are produced in a peculiar way: uninucleate portions are separated from the strands the plasmodial network and deposited in the centers of the meshes. A possible phylogeny of the plasmodial protists is presented under the aspect of new findings.
