Notes

Testate amoebae are well to characterize using shape and structure of their shells. Length, width and thickness of the shell as well as width and thickness of the pseudostome were taken from 8 species. These parameters belonging to all examined species were normal distributed. Using data-reducing multivariate statistics it was shown that a segregation on species level is possible with only a few parameters. For this purpose, especially the parameter "shell-width" played an important role. The pseudostome and the shell-thickness were varying in a manifold way. Using an image-analysis system, measures of shell platelets from six populations of Schoenbornia humicola (Schonborn) were taken: length and width of the shell showed only small differences in size; no significant differences between the populations were visible. Then, measures from 6061 idiosomes of 110 individuals were taken and grafically demonstrated. There were significant differences in the shape of the shell platelets between the six populations. If and (should the situation arise) to which extend these differences were depending on abiotic factors of the investigated site is uncertain for the moment.
