The morphological and taxonomic characteristics of a marine ciliate of the subclass Stichotrichia are described. The description is based on a statistical study of 34 structural variables and additional data for 8 others. Seventeen characteristics of the specimens are compared with those of 28 species. Analysis of 15 variables, the differences between their arithmetic means and the differences between the specimens and the 28 species shows that the ciliate is a new species, Holosticha begoniensis n. sp.
