Notes

Corallomyxa multipara n. sp., a plasmodial rhizopod from the coast of Queensland, could be isolated and cultivated. In contrast to other species of the genus (C. mutabilis Grell, 1966; C. chattoni Grell & Benwitz, 1978), the multinucleate and reticulate plasmodium of Corallomyxa multipara n. sp. condenses to form roundish masses (diameter: 0.7-1.5 µm) which, by multiple budding, produce hundreds of mononucleate cells floating in the sea water ("floating buds"). Whether or not they are gametes needs to be investigated.
