Notes

The fine structure of the oral apparatus, fronto-ventral and transverse cirri, and dorsal ciliature of the hypotrichous ciliate Laurentiella acuminata was studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and by light microscopy of protargol impregnated specimens. Results show only minor ultrastructural differences with respect to the other previously investigated hypotrichs. Paramembranelles of the AZM also typically contain five rows of kinetosomes. We discuss here the variability in the structural pattern of the outer paroral membrane in the hypotrichs.
