Notes

Seven species of Acanthocystis and one species of Raphidocystis are illustrated by light and electron microscopy from freshwater localities in Australia. The cell and scale structure of the individual taxa are in close agreement with that found elsewhere in the world. The organisms are recorded in Australia from a wide variety of habitats, varying from a swamp and billabong (freshwater lagoon) in the tropics to oligotrophic lakes and dystrophic coastal lagoons in cool-temperate latitudes, and appear to have a wide tolerance of temperature and trophic conditions.
