Notes

Twenty-seven green algae were isolated from soils of Asian and Oceanian countries; Indonesia, Japan, Nepal and Papua New Guinea. By the light microscopy using cultural techniques the isolates are identified as follows; Chlamydomonas moewusii Gerloff var. moewusii, C. umbonata Pascher var. umbonata, C. mutabilis Gerloff, C. monticola S. Watanabe sp. nov., C. augustae Skuja var. ellipsoidea S. Watanabe var. nov., C. culleus Ettl, Dunaliella lateralis Pascher and Jahonda, Neochloris alveolaris Bold, N. pseudoalveolaris Deason and Bold, Characium maximum S. Watanabe sp. nov., Myrmecia biatorellae (Tschermak-Woess and Plessl) Petersen, Chlorosarcinopsis caeca S. Watanabe sp. nov., C. delicata S. Watanabe sp. nov., Planophila terrestris Groover and Hofstetter, Tetracystis chlorococcoides (Korschikov) S. Watanabe comb. nov., Pseudotetracystis terrestris Arneson, Klebsormidium montanum (Skuja) S. Watanabe comb. nov. and Pseudopleurococcus printzii Vischer var. longissimus S. Watanabe var. nov. A new Chlorosarcinacean genus Neochlorosarcina S. Watanabe is proposed to include 5 species and 1 form which have been deposited at UTEX as taxa of Chlorosarcinopsis. The next three species and dealt with as synonyms of the following taxa in parenthesis; Neochloris bilobata Vinatzer (Neochloris alveolaris Bold), Neochloris fusispora Arce and Bold (Pseudotetracystis terrestris Arneson) and Planophila communis S. Watanabe (Planophila terrestris Groover and Hofstetter).
