A mass development of Euglena acus (14500 cells per ml) in a former sandpit near Halle/S. (GDR) was observed. Some morphological and cytological investigations on the flagellate were carried out. A stage of cell division and resting stages (cysts) are described. Some notes in connection with water quality are enclosed.
