Brachionus dimidiatus was first found in the USSR in a small pond in the town of Makhachkala (Daghestan ASSR). This species is characterized by distinct sharpened spines of anterior margin of the carapace dorsal plate, absence of posterior spines, large distance between lateral and medial spines.
