Notes

From 1956 to 1963 the author carried out observations on the resting eggs of Rotifers; in this communication the author describes the results of this investigations of the resting eggs of Brachionus calyciflorus. It was found that one and the same female may produce eggs differing in color, shell structure, size and development. Eggs deposited at the start of bisexual reproduction differ from those deposited at the end of this period. It has been established that among the resting eggs of one population are eggs that can develop right from the moment of formation and during several months, readily responding to changes in environmental conditions, and there are other eggs which require a long period of rest. The author thinks that the duration of the rest period is related to the heterogeneous quality of eggs, determined, essentially, by physiological changes of the sexual gland of the female.
