Notes

The availability of marine rotifer Brachionus plicatilis cysts for aquaculture has long been suggested. Only a few studies, however, reported trials of mass formation of rotifer cysts as well as their application to aquaculture. The current paper summarizes our works relating to those topics, which are based on accumulated fundamental information on B. plicatilis cyst formation. These include the selection of preferable rotifer clones, use of preserved diets for cyst formation, bacterial effect on rotifer sexual reproduction, actual trials of cyst formation and application of rotifer cysts for larval rearing practices.
