Notes

Twenty one species of Rotifers - among them fifteen are new to Italy - are signalled. In particular, one species is discussed because of the divergences between the observed specimens and Philodina inopinata, species to which the individuals found seem to be closer. The specimens measured from 250 to 290 µm fully extended and manifest a quite long, mobile rostrum, and a very long dorsal antenna, the d.f. is 2/2. The robust trunk tapers with the lumb and foot, which are both robust. The stomach lumen is clearly visible. The specimens manifest a peculiar round knob in a post-anal position. The spurs are rather small and separated at their base. The 4 toes were not visible, rather it would appear that the individuals might manifest an adhesive plate, which is a feature of the Mniobia genus. The shape of the corona and of the upperlip was observed only briefly: the form of the upperlip would appear to be squared at the base of the trochi, and, when wheeling, the rostrum seems to be as high as the upperlip.
