Notes

The lengths of embryonic (De) and post-embryonic (Dp) developments as well as generation time are estimated at various temperatures (from 10 to 23 degrees C) for 12 species of planktonic and periphytic Rotifera: Asplanchna brighwelli, Brachionus calyciflorus, Epiphanes brachionus, Euchlanis dilatata, Keratella quadrata, K. valga, Notholca acuminata, Notommata collaris, N. copeus, Polyarthra dolichoptera, Synchaeta pectinata and Conochiloides natans. Rate of development and temperature are ordinarily related by a linear correlation (1/D=2a theta +b). The values of the constants a and b are dependent on the temperature adaptation of the species, or the races, in their environment. The relation Dp/De (approximately constant), the Q10 and the conversion factors are also discussed.
